UFC on Fuel 8 Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is back this weekend a high voltage MMA event set to take place on March 3, 2013 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan and headlined by multidivisional contenders Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann.
Nicknamed "The Axe Murderer" and "Cachorro Louco" (Crazy Dog), Silva (34-12) will make his comeback in Japan after several years of absence. Silva, who fought in Japan for almost 7 years,  owns an impressive record of eighteen-straight fights won in Pride (18 wins, 13 KO’s) and developed a successful 5 year win record in the middle weight division (205 lb) of Pride.
Silva made his UFC comeback at UFC 79 against Cuck Lidell, losing to the “Ice Man” by unanimous decision.  However, he returned to victory with a decisive KO win against Keith Jardine at the 36-second mark of the first round at UFC 84, earning the Knockout of the Night honors.
Silva was stated to face Brian Stann at UFC 130, but after the Brazilain voiced his reluctance to face Stann, he was replaced on the card by UFC veteran Jorge Santiago. Stann defeated Santiago via TKO in the 2nd round after a right to the temple sent Santiago down and numerous strikes forced a stoppage.
The former U.S Marine Brian Michael Stann (12-5), made his official UFC debut against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 97 in Montreal, Canada, losing the fight in first round via tap out. Stann bounced back with consecutive wins over Steve Cantwell (UFC Fight Night: Diaz vs. Guillard) and Rodney Wallace (TUF 10 Finale), before losing to UFC newcomer Phil Davis at UFC 109 and dropping to the 185 lbs. Middleweight division.
Stann won his first ever submission victory, catching Mike Massenzio in a Triangle choke at UFC on Versus 2. Stann then fought in the co-main event of UFC 125, claiming a victory over Chris Leben with a first-round TKO stoppage. The former WEC champ then fought Chael Sonnen on October 8, 2011 at UFC 136 (loss via submission), Alessio Sakara at UFC on Fuel: Gustafsson vs. Silva (Win by K.O) and Micheal Bisping at UFC 152 (Loss by Unanimous decision).
UFC on Fuel 8 Main Card also features a heavyweight battle presenting Mark Hunt and Stefan Struve, a Lightweight contest pitting Takanori Gomi and Diego Sanchez, plus a featherweight combat between Mizuto Hirota and Rani Yahya. Finally, Yushin Okami takes on Hector Lombard in a middleweight fight.

49ers Agree to Trade Former Starting QB Alex Smith to Kansas City

After almost nine year wearing the Niners jersey, former starting quarterback and No.1 Pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, Alex Smith, will see a new start with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Smith, who sustained a concussion last season, was replaced by Colin Kaepernick for the remainder of the season, despite the fact Smith was subsequently cleared to play.
However, after winning just two games last season, the Chiefs are willing to bring Smith onboard and give the 29-year-old quarterback a second chance.  The deal is part of the team reorganization implemented by Kansas City’s new coach Andy Reid, who wants to acquire Smith’s services as soon as possible.
Kansas City is open to trade its second-round pick in the 2013 Draft to get Smith’s services. Smith will play under terms of his remaining contract, which guarantees a base salary of $8.5 million next season.
The Niners drafted Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in 2005. He remained a secondary QB until 2010, but with the arrival of Coach Jim Harbaugh in 2011, Smith was named the starting quarterback heading into the regular season. The same year, Smith set new personal and franchise records and led the 49ers to a 13-3 record and their first NFL playoffs since 1997.
Smith kicked off the 2012 season as the 49ers' starting quarterback and guided his squad to 6 victories and 2 losses before suffering a concussion on Week 9 vs. the St. Louis Rams. A quarterback controversy began when Smith was cleared to play and Coach Harbaugh decided to keep Colin Kaepernick as the official starter.
Kansas City still owns the No. 1 pick in the draft, a chance they would likely use to draft Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel as the No. 1 pick in April’s draft.

NBA Betting: Heat Keeps Heading Toward Back-to-Back Title

NBA’s defending champion, the Miami Heat, has many reasons to remain positive.  Not only the team owns some of the best numbers in recent history, but it also rides a 12-game winning streak.
With a record of 41 wins and 14 losses record, the Heat is sat on the first place in the Eastern Conference, six games ahead of their most immediate contender, the Indiana Pacers (36-21), and with less that 30 games in the regular season schedule, no other squad in the NBA seems strong enough to stop them.

After a loss to the Indiana Pacers on February 1st (89-102), the team led by NBA All Star Lebron James, capped the month of February with 5 wins on the road and seven victories at American Airlines Arena.

In addition, the team has improved its numbers compared to last season. In last season's shortened campaign, the Heat was 39-15 after 54 games played. Miami is currently 40-14 with the same number of games played.

Back in 20111, the Heat reached its best start in franchise with 19 wins and 6 losses. This year, the team improved their previous record by one victory (20-6). Also, the longest winning streak achieved last season was 9 games. Just in February, the Heat has won 12 consecutive games, the longest winning streak of the season and the second longest streak in franchise history.

Led by Chris Bosh, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade, the Heat’s offense is the key behind Miami’s recent dominance. The Heat's offense reached the 100-point mark in 10 of 13 games and shot a collective 52% for the month.

Over the last four weeks, Miami has completely dismantled its rivals, winning eight out of ten matches by at least 10 points, including victories over two of the top three teams in the West Conference (Thunder and Clippers). Right after the 2013 NBA All-Star break. Then, they picked right up after the break to beat the Atlanta Hawks, Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers on the road before two close wins against Cleveland and Sacramento.

In its latest match, the Heat defeated the Sacramento Kings 141-129 in a double Over Time. The 141 points tied the franchise scoring record.  The game also marked Miami’s first double-overtime game at home and second overall. James closed the night with 40 points, eight rebounds and a career-high 16 assists. Thanks to his impressive numbers, “King” James became the first player in the NBA to finish with at least 40 points and 16 assists since 1994 when Kevin Johnson, now the mayor of Sacramento, scored 42 points and 17 for Phoenix against Denver.

Dwayne Wade had 39 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Ray Allen contributed with 21 points, Chris Bosh finished with 15 and Chris Andersen had 10 for the Heat.

While we will have to wait until the 2013 Championship to see if the team can claim it second straight title, so far the team has proved they are able to improve the record achieved by the squad that won the NBA championship last season and that they deserve a spot in the history books.
